The Scholastic Program Advisor (“Advisor”) is essential to a scholastic cheer program’s success. The Advisor does not need to be familiar with the sport of cheerleading as they are not responsible for coaching the team; however, their vested interest in the sport and their student-athletes is key.
The Advisor must be clear on their role and responsibilities to avoid any confusion amongst program participants. In summary, Advisors:
Are responsible for all administrative activities related to the team.
Attend all team events,
Are the liaison between the coach(es), athletic director, administration, parents, and athletes.
Support coach(es) and athletes to achieve their goals by upholding the core values of the program.
Ensure cohesive leadership within the program by keeping the lines of communication open and working together with the coach(es) to create the best possible experience for the athletes.
