Who must register with the ACA and Cheer Canada?

All individuals (“Participants”) and programs engaged in the sport of cheerleading in Alberta (“Programs”), regardless of the type of cheer or position, must register as a member of the ACA and Cheer Canada. For example:

  • Recreational

  • Scholastic (Elementary, Junior High, High School)

  • Collegiate

  • All-star

  • Professional

This includes performance, game day, individual, duo and group cheer.


How does the ACA define a “cheerleading program”?

Any organization, school, or group with an organized cheerleading program or team in Alberta that instructs and trains athletes and coaches and participates in cheerleading activities and events in Alberta. These organizations have their own registered athletes.


Who are the “Participants” that must register with the ACA and Cheer Canada?

  • Athletes

  • Coaches

  • Coaches-in-training

  • Program staff, owners and advisors

  • Officials


Why must Participants register with the ACA and Cheer Canada?

Participants who are members in good standing are:

  • Recognized as an Alberta cheerleading coach, athlete, CIT, etc. throughout Canada, as applicable to your membership type.

  • Permitted to coach, compete, perform, etc. at any ACA-sanctioned activity or event, as applicable to your membership type.

  • Covered under the ACA’s general liability and sport accident insurance - more information coming soon!

  • Invited to participate in ACA’s and Cheer Canada’s programs and services.


What are the 2022 - 2023 Participant fees?

Please note that processing fees to CheerReg and tax to CheerReg and Cheer Canada are added to each participant’s fee.

Payment processing fee (MasterCard/Amex etc) = 2.9% + $0.40 per transaction

Cheer-Reg processing fee registration, donation, activity fee = $1.70 per registration, donation, activity fee (item in cart)

Note: fees are cumulative


What if an athlete participates on both all-star and school teams?

Athletes are only required to purchase a membership once.  If an athlete participates on a school and club team, they will affiliate with both programs; however, they will only be charged membership fees once.


What is the deadline for registration?

All current participants must be registered by January 15, 2023. Participants without membership after this date will no longer have valid insurance at ACA-sanctioned events.  New participants can register at any time following January 15, 2023.
